Back to School, we pray ...
Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters who help ensure that more young Rwandans and Ugandans are able to start back at school this September. At primary level, although many children manage to attend school, there are still some skipping from school to school to avoid paying the fees which their parents cannot afford. At secondary level the fees and materials needed become much more expensive and it is estimated that only 50% of those aged 11 to 18 actually attend secondary school. All of the sponsored children are able to attend both primary school and secondary school with all the necessary uniform and materials. Thank you. Statistics for the two countries show that only 10-12% progress on to university due to financial struggles as well as availability/location of courses. How lovely then that this weekend we received a message from a former sponsored young man saying
“I received my second year results and they were so much nice than I expected. I’m starting my third year next week where I’ll be starting my clerkships, being in the hospital directly interacting with patients, something that I dreamed for so long. And I have turned 22 today. So many things to thank God for.”
We met this same young man in Rwanda two years ago just as he was embarking on his university journey. He ate dinner with us, the first time in his life, aged 20, to have tasted chicken. Oh the things we take for granted. Sponsorship has broadened his horizons and given him a future he could only dream of. May God bless you young man.

EARLY YEARS LEARNING FACILITIES ARE CRUCIAL IN RWANDA AND UGANDA where many parents are forced to leave their under 5’s at home, unsupervised, while they go to look for work to provide basic needs for the family. Your support has enabled CHI to provide funds for the renovating and equipping of these facilities. Our Champion A Child project supports lunches, educational and play equipment for the youngest children in a very poor area in Cyangugu, Rwanda - the pot bellies on these children showed that their hunger was real. A cup of porridge might be all they get all day.

Your support blesses, feeds and sustains them.
THANK YOU

Another date for your diaries is the Annual Meeting, where you can hear about the work carried out this year by CHI. This will be on Saturday 12 October 2-4pm at St Peters Church, Gubbins Lane, Harold Wood, RM3 0QA. There will be light refreshments served and an opportunity to ask us any questions you may have (about CHI and the work not quantum physics or anything too difficult!). The CHI Christmas cards and calendars will also be available, and there will be a few handmade items for sale to raise funds too.
